Appointed in September last year, Winkler barely had a full quarter under his belt charged with overseeing daily operations of Melco’s properties from Macau to Manila to the Mediterranean before COVID-19 struck. Moreover, there’s little to suggest what Winkler’s oversight will bring. Since Winkler joined Melco in 2016, he’s largely worked behind the scenes as adviser to Chairman and CEO Lawrence Ho. Even in his more high profile post, Winkler has maintained low visibility; Executive Vice President and CFO Geoff Davis and Winkler’s direct report David Sisk, COO for Macau resorts, join Ho to speak to analysts on quarterly earnings calls. Before signing on with Melco, Winkler spent almost 20 years in finance at Wall Street investment banks, participating in projects that familiarized him with Melco and vice versa. Winkler worked on mergers and acquisitions at UBS, and then joined Moelis & Company, founded in 2007 to specialize in M&A. Winkler was also named as having played a key role in Melco’s attempted acquisition of its one- time partner, Australia’s Crown Resorts, before that transaction fell through on a probity inquiry.
