IAG JAPAN MAR 2020 10 MGM RESORTS NOW LAST MAN STANDING IN OSAKA AFTER RIVALS WITHDRAW FROM SELECTION PROCESS MGM Resorts appears to be the last man standing to develop an integrated resort in Osaka after the Osaka Prefectural Government announced that the US casino operator and its local partner Orix were the only consortium to apply to submit a bid. With the deadline for applying for the Request for Proposal stage passing on 14 February, the prefecture revealed at a press conference that it had only received one application following the withdrawal of both Genting Singapore and Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG), with MGM now in prime position to partner with Osaka to develop an IR on Yumeshima Island. Both Genting Singapore and GEG issued statements addressing their decision, with Genting stating, “This is a tough decision for us, and it’s unfortunate after the many exchanges we have had with everyone in Osaka. “In the future, Genting Singapore will focus on participating in the Yokohama IR request for concept (RFC), which is currently underway. Wewill do our utmost to provide an attractive proposal including MICE and a variety of leisure facilities to make it a must-visit destination.” GEG Vice Chairman Francis Lui explained that, “after deep reflection, we decided at this time that our focus should be on other potential locations in Japan, including among others, Yokohama. “We informed the Osaka City Integrated Resort Promotion Bureau of this decision well ahead of the 14 February deadline for application to participate in the RFP and the City were understanding and appreciative of the efforts we made in assisting them with the process to date.” ライバルによる公募参加断念を 受け、MGMリゾーツが大阪IR開 発の最終候補へ 大阪 府は、米国のMGMリゾーツと地元パートナーで あるオリックスとの共同チームが、適格な入札を行な った唯一の事業社であったと発表し、同社が大阪の 統合型リゾート開発を目指す最終事業者候補となっ た。 大阪RFPの入札締切に際し、大阪府・市は2月14日 の記者会見で、ゲンティン・シンガポールやギャラクシ ーエンターテインメントグループ（GEG）の撤退後、適 切な応募は1事業社のみであり、MGMが大阪のパート ナーとして夢洲でIRを開発するのにもっとも有力な位 置にいることを明らかにしました。 ゲンティン・シンガポールは「当社にとって今回は 苦渋の決断であり、大阪の皆様とこれまでに温めてき た交流をふまえたうえで、この決定をお伝えせねばな らないことは、心より残念な思い。 なお今後、ゲンティン・シンガポールは、現在取り組 んでいる横浜市のIR事業コンセプト募集（RFC）への 参加に専心する事で、横浜をMICEや多彩なレジャー 施設の導入により、世界で最も卓越したディスティネ ーション（絶対に訪れるべき観光地）とすべく、魅力的 な提案を提供できるよう全力で努めていく」と述べた。 GEG副会長フランシス・ルイ氏は、「熟慮の結果、今 回は、とりわけ横浜などの日本の他の候補地に焦点 を合わせるべきだと決断した。 当社は、RFPへの参加申請の2月14日という締め 切り前に余裕をもってこの決定を大阪のIR推進局に 知らせ、市は理解を示してくれ、これまでに同プロセス で彼らを支援する中で我々が行なってきた取り組みに 対して感謝の意を表明してくれた」と説明した。
