To make sure it stays that way, the company is now embarking on its latest expansion agenda with flagship property Galaxy Macau leading the way. Expected to open in early 2021, Galaxy Macau Phase 3 will include a 1,500-room hotel and the Galaxy International Convention Centre for MICE. Preparation works are also well advanced for Phase 4, a 3,000-hotel-room project tipped to open in 2022. Those expansion initiatives will likely be enough to see Galaxy catch right up to Las Vegas Sands in the race to become Macau’s GGR market share leader, however there have been some challenges in the meantime. Galaxy Entertainment Group saw its net revenue fall 5.4% year- on-year to HK$13.17 billion in 2Q19, the decline coming on the back of a 37.9% drop in VIP turnover and impacted by the current geopolitical environment. Notwithstanding such circumstances, Kelley is certainly no stranger to high pressure situations with 40 years of industry experience, including a role as Senior Vice President of Operations at Las Vegas Sands where, ironically, he helped open The Venetian Macao.
