IAG JAPAN FEB 2019 12 日本MGMリゾーツ「大阪 ファースト方針」を発表 〝日本 MGMリゾーツ（代表執行役員兼CEO：エド・バワーズ）が、思い切 った意思決定を表明した。 大阪ファースト方針〟と銘打った決定は、「 日本でのIR(統合型リゾート)の区域整備計画の認定を目指すため、今 後は同社の経営資源を大阪に集中させる」というもの。 これまでにも、天神祭や道頓堀リバーウォークなど地元のイベント に協賛し、IRの最有力候補地とも言える大阪とのつながりを深めてき たMGM。 1月にはMGMリゾーツ・インターナショナルのジム・ムーレン会長兼 CEOが大阪府の松井一郎知事と大阪市の吉村洋文市長を表敬訪問し、 「大阪が一番だ」と語ったところだ。 日本MGMリゾーツの代表執行役員兼社長のジェイソン・ハイランド 氏は、「MGMリゾーツのIR提案及び区域整備計画に、大阪および関西 の素晴らしい歴史・文化を反映すべく、今後も地域の観光産業関係者 の皆様、経済界の皆様と交流を深めて行くことに大きな期待感を抱い ております」と、コメントを発表。 大阪への一本化は、日本版IRを勝ち取るためのアグレッシヴな戦略 とも言えよう。 すでに大阪府の松井知事は、IR事業者選定の公募作業をこの春か ら開始することを表明している。今回のMGMの方針決定は、大阪IRを 実現するための強力な後ろ盾を得た形だ。 MGMRESORTS REVEALS “OSAKA FIRST POLICY” MGM Resorts Japan has announced its new “Osaka First Policy” – a move which aims to “concentrate MGM’s management resources in Osaka to gain regional improvement plan approval for an IR facility in Japan.” MGM has cooperated in a number of local events in recent months, such as the Tenjin Festival and Dotonbori Riverwalk, in order to enhance the company’s connection with Osaka – the current front-runner as an IR candidate location. MGM Resorts International Chairman and CEO Jim Murren visited Osaka Prefecture Governor Ichiro Matusi and Osaka City Mayor Hirofumi Yoshimura in January, stating his opinion to them that Osaka is “the best.” Jason Hyland, President and Representative Officer of MGM Resorts Japan, commented, “The IR proposal and regional development plan offered by MGM Resorts should reflect the wonderful history and culture of Osaka and the Kansai region. We hope to continue deepening our relationships with those in the regional tourist industries as well as the financial circles.” Focusing all efforts on Osaka is certainly an aggressive strategy to win a Japanese IR license. Governor Matsui has already announced that the public offering to select an IR partner will begin this Spring. This policy decision by MGM is an extremely strong backing for an Osaka IR to become a reality.
